San Gregorio State Beach, San Gregorio, California

It's the perfect spot to come and read a book and it conveniently overlooks the water. The beach itself is a little messy at times, sadly families come and litter but it is actually a pretty nice place when it's not trashed. I personally just enjoy throwing a frisbee here or just climbing on the rocks (especially during high tide, it's a little scary but fun). Still one of my favorite places. It's also my destination for late night drives.
While you are here, be sure to stop into the San Gregorio General Store for a snack or something from the bar.

San Gregorio Beach, the country's oldest nude beach (since 1967) is a large, popular beach with sand, caves and more.
Don't confuse this privately-owned beach with the state beach which is right next door.

In 1769, the Portola Expedition camped at the Ohlone village near the mouth of San Gregorio Creek. Today at the entrance of San Gregorio State Beach a bronze plaque commemorates their passing. Surf fishing is popular on this beach and the bluffs to the north provide a good vantage point for whale watching. Just inland is the San Gregorio Creek estuary and freshwater marsh, a good place for watching great herons and snowy egrets.
A mile inland is the small town of Gregorio, which was once a popular resort around the turn of the century and now is a picturesque shadow of its former self. Stage Road is the old stage route running between San Gregorio and Pescadero. It's a scenic meandering drive curving over the hills and can be especially fun in a sports car.
Beach facilities include picnic tables and restrooms. For more information call (415) 726-6238

In San Mateo County the beach adjoins Hwy 1, just south of the Hwy. 84/La Honda Road turn off.
